As is well known, the whole is more than the sum of its parts.

The Frauenmuseum Hittisau is characterised by its special kind of personal communication, employing more than twenty female Cultural Narrators. To engage more deeply with, and to better understand the multiple themes for the varied exhibitions, these experts can accompany visitors through exhibitions. This year the Frauenmuseum Hittisau celebrates its 20th anniversary.

The Frauenmuseum Hittisau is a success story. The museum is highly regarded and is multi award winning. It is recognised professionally and publicly as an excellent example of cultural work in rural areas. When the museum was founded, director Elisabeth Stöckler relied on the women of the region. In 2009, under the new direction of Stefania Pitscheider Soraperra, it was natural to continue this idea. Nothing has changed to this day. The success of the Frauenmuseum Hittisau lies on the shoulders of many. The team of Cultural Narrators has always guaranteed a connection to the region. All these women were and still are today, the true support of the museum. It is therefore particularly important to us to make all Cultural Narrators who were and are active in the Frauenmuseum Hittisau visible in the past and present.

What makes a Cultural Narrator? You live in Hittisau or in the region, are between 18 and 88 years old. You have a different educational, professional or ethnic origin background. There is room for students as well as teachers, truck drivers and kindergarten teachers, farmers and hiking guides, pensioners and graphic artist, theatre directors, and geriatric nurses.

The many different experiences of the group result in a strong, diverse, and complex-thinking team that can develop differentiated approaches to different topics. The composition of the team reflects, in our opinion, the imperative for inclusivity in museums.
